They will look at pieces of art by Paul Khlee, Henri Matisse and the ‘Fauve’ art movement. Students will complete a mix-media self portrait using markers, oil and chalk pastels, paint and paper. We will then spend time learning about the elements of art, examining how artists employ them in their work, and practising various skills associated with each element.

Grade 5 Visual Arts Curriculum Overview
In Grade 5 Art we will be starting the year by creating a mini self-portrait zine inspired by Beci Orpin's artwork. This will be a multi-media project using markers, collage, pencil and stickers/washi tape. The focus will be on students exploring how artists select and manipulate materials and techniques and use these in their own art making. We will then spend time learning about the elements of art, examining how artists employ them in their work, and practising various skills associated with each element. The focus here will be on students making informed choices about using elements to express a concept or theme, and having access to a variety of materials including pastels, pencils, paint and collage.
