VISUAL ART PROGRAM
Leanne James, Sara-Jane Drew The Maiden Gully Primary School Art Room is a place of creativity, individual expression, and the celebration of all things ART. We support students to work safely, take responsibility for their creative practice and to consider perspectives of artists from a range of backgrounds and cultures. All students enjoy weekly Art lessons in our specialised Art teaching space. Students explore a range of mediums and experiences in Visual Arts as they engage in appreciation of the art world. Prep Our Prep students will be introduced to the Art Room in Term 1 and there is much to learn in this creative space! Students will learn about the safety and organisation of the Art Room and they will develop their art making skills by participating in two main creative projects. They will contribute to a school-wide collaborative artwork that will be displayed in the school and that will incorporate our Art Room Acknowledgement to Country. Students will also create a self-portrait that introduces them to some of the elements of Art including line, shape and colour. Grade 1 In Term 1 students will focus on drawing skills by participating in three main creative projects. They will contribute to a school-wide collaborative artwork that will incorporate an Acknowledgement to Country, and they will create a self-portrait that introduces them to some of the elements of Art including line, shape and colour. Students will also explore drawing from different points of view for their treasure map project. Grade 2 As a part of our drawing focus in Term 1, students will get creative by designing their ultimate school lunch – with a twist! They will contribute to our school-wide Acknowledgement to Country project and explore the work of different drawing artists and illustrators as inspiration for their own drawing. Students will experiment with line, shape, colour and pattern and will work from both their imagination and observation. Grade 3 Grade 3 students will experience a range of drawing opportunities exploring different drawing techniques and materials over the course of Term 1. They will draw from what they can observe and what they can imagine, and they will be inspired by artists including Jimmy Pike and other Australian artists. They will experiment with depth of field and different points of view in the artworks they create. Grade 4 In Term 1, Grade 4 students will be focusing on their drawing skills. We will be creating an art work based around warm and cool colours using oil pastels, creating art using nature and using lines to create illusions. They will also be contributing to a school wide collaborative artwork that will be displayed within school and that will incorporate an Acknowledgement to Country. Grade 5 and 6 In Art this term our Grade 5 and 6 students will develop their drawing skills by participating in various workshops that will challenge them to focus on composition, detail, texture and value. Across a number of weeks they will create a unique creature after gaining inspiration from Australian fauna, the natural environment, household objects and artists Shaun Tan, Phillip Bunting and May Gibbs. The senior student will contribute to our school-wide Acknowledgement to Country artwork as well. |
