Welcome to Term 3! We have a number of special activities happening throughout the term, keep an eye out on class dojo and the newsletter for reminders.
Wednesday 24th July – Music is Fun Incursion
Thursday 29th August – Father’s Day Morning (Prep-2)
Monday 9th September – Concert (Grades 2-4) – performance will be in the evening, more details to come!
Drink Bottles (with water only) are to be brought to school each day. It is important that the students have drink bottle to keep hydrated. Please ensure your child’s items are clearly named, especially jumpers as the weather starts to cool down!
Please ensure your child has a routine for their nightly reading to support the daily reading in the classroom. Readers coming home each night should include 2 books – one new book and one to practice fluency (the book from the night before). See your child’s teacher for the best time to assist with classroom reading – perhaps a grandparent or aunty/uncle can join us for reading if parents are working. Thank you to our family members who are able to help with classroom reading throughout the week! We appreciate your time and the children love having you join us for reading time!
Our writing genre this term will include information reports. In writing, we will be focusing on correctly spelling high frequency words, using our sound knowledge to have a go at unknown words and ensuring we have capital letters and full stops in the correct places. Each week this term we will be looking at a particular sound each week as part of our Soundwaves Spelling program.
Our continued focus this term in Number will include place value and number facts. We will be partitioning numbers – into hundreds, tens and ones. Look around at home for opportunities to bring number into your discussions at home!
At home you might like to practice number facts to 10 (eg: 6 + 4 = 10) and fact families (eg: 2 + 3 = 5 and 4 + 1 = 5). These facts are vital to mathematics success if they are automatic. Perhaps a good time is as your child is helping to set the dinner table – how many knives and forks do we need? How many cups of water? What are the fact families at your home for each of these? Eg: at Mrs. Hunter’s house she needs 4 knives, 4 forks and 1 baby spoon. The number facts for 4 include: 1 + 3 = 4, 2 + 2 = 4, 3 + 1 = 4 and 4 + 0 = 4.
The focus this term is “Chemical Science” – Everyday materials can be physically changed or combined with other materials in a variety of ways for particular purposes
Our Grade 2 classes have PE, Music & Drama and Chinese on Thursdays as a rotation for 2 hours. We then have Art for one hour each week (Gr. 2H on Mondays and 2EL/2DL on Wednesdays).
Class Dojo – please regularly check your child’s class dojo page for reminders of upcoming events and to see photos from the classroom.
