Neil Byers
As part of our Physical Education Program, students are involved in several additional sporting programs as well as the opportunity to represent the school throughout the year. These opportunities include swimming, gymnastics, coaching clinics, athletics, cross country running, basketball, netball and football.

Chinese Language and Cultural Immersion Program

Over the past two years, students in Grades 4-6 have had the opportunity to participate in the Chinese Language Program. The program consists of weekly lessons conducted by Chinese teachers from Bendigo Senior Secondary College. Students in the program enjoy learning about Chinese language and culture. Some examples of what students are learning about at the moment are; greetings, the Chinese number system, money and celebrations. Students can practice what they have learnt each week on the interactive Bendigo Confucius Classroom website. To access the site follow the link below:

Chinese Immersion Program
In addition to the language program, we are also developing a strong connection with our Chinese sister school, Xingwan School. Last year, 4 students and a teacher from Xingwan School came to Maiden Gully as part of our Chinese Immersion Program. They stayed with host families and became members of our school community for 8 weeks. This was a wonderful opportunity for our students to get to know people from a different culture and to learn more about China. We look forward to hosting more Chinese students in Term 4 this year.

Visit our Team China page to learn more about the recipients selected to represent our school as part of Team China in May-June, 2014!
